My Experience of Nepal Earthquake 2015

I had heard often about the earthquake that happened back in 1934 in Nepal. Yes, it was the most devastating natural disaster to take place. And we were kind of expecting for a big earthquake like that to happen again. It was already predicted to happen after several decades later. So, it took place again after 82 years. 1934's earthquake was of 8.1 magnitude while 2015's , recent one is of 7.8 magnitude. It was bit less magnitude than the one of 1934 but it did bring a lot of destruction and chaos.

It was April 25th. I had woken up very early that morning to study for my exam, I woke up around 3 am and prepared. I attended my exam at 7 am. Then later I returned home. The time was 11:30, I was relaxed at my home, I drank a glass of juice and laid down to rest for a while. Then at 11:56 am, suddenly I could feel everything around me shaking. I knew immediately that it was an earthquake. This was my 3rd experience of earthquake in Nepal. But none were violent like this one. I ran outside forgetting to put on my slippers. My family also came out. All the neighbors hurried out. It was a very crazy experience, we could all see the houses trembling, shaking violently. Then it stopped. Luckily, no houses nearby collapsed. And then I thought that, soon after an hour or so, it'll be safe to go back into home. But no, the aftershocks kept coming frequently, we stayed out for 2 hours, the 5 hours, then it was already night. Still, aftershocks kept coming frequently. Each aftershocks were deadly as well. Then we started to make few tents outside to accommodate people, because it was no longer secure to enter home.

There was constant fear of having a higher magnitude earthquake. We no longer could have a sound sleep. All of a sudden, everyone's normal life was paused. I had to give exam on Monday, and that too got postponed. From Saturday to Tuesday, the whole country went into a chaos state. We saw the news that many historical heritages, temples, towns all collapsed. There were more than 100 aftershocks during the several days. The death toll kept rising into thousands. People panicked a lot. There were even false rumors spreading around. Some people were falsely predicting that the incoming earthquakes of higher magnitude may strike. It seemed that people were more gullible towards rumors than listening to what the seismologists were saying.

I learned a lot during this week, as I experienced this disaster. Luckily, none of my family members or relatives were harmed. This event let me know who really cares for me. I had several of my friends and relatives calling on the phone to check whether I was safe. It's also nice to know that so many countries would help with relief and aid for the victims. At any moment, an unexpected situation may occur, but the important thing is to be brave and act wise.
